1. Get Safe

If you don't feel safe, call the New York City Police Department by dialing 911 or The SUNY Westchester Community College Security at 914-606-6911. Either can provide protection and transportation to the nearest hospital.

24/7 crisis hotlines can also help:
Victims Assistance Toll-Free Hotline: 1‐855‐827‐2255
Victims Assistance Local Hotline: 1-914-345-9111
WESTCOP Main Office: 1-914-345-3113

WESTCOP Victims Assistance can help. Call 24/7 and WESTCOP Victims Assistance will clearly explain all options available to a survivor in the aftermath of a sexual assault.

2. Preserve Evidence

A survivor is often the only witness to the crime and often, the survivor’s body is the only evidence. A forensic exam will dramatically increase the likelihood that physical evidence will be found. Evidence that will be available if the survivor wishes to report the incident either to the police, to the College, or both. Most hospitals in NY State are capable of performing a forensic exam.

To preserve evidence you should NOT: brush, douche, bathe, shower, change clothes, or straighten the crime scene. If you have done any of the things mentioned, it’s okay, it may still be possible to find evidence.
